Translink Corporate Finance acted as the exclusive financial advisor to the company and the owners of Suora Broadcast in the successful transaction with DMC Production.
Suora Broadcast Oy, a specialist in live sports productions, has been acquired by a Swedish family-owned company. Through the acquisition, Suora Broadcast Oy becomes part of the organisation of DMC Production (DMC), owned by Stena AB Group, one of Sweden’s largest family companies.
DMC now has offices in Helsinki, Stockholm, Oslo, and Copenhagen. The transaction was signed in Oslo on November 7, 2022, making DMC one of the major TV production companies in Northern Europe with more than 4000 annual productions.
“The transaction strengthens us financially and enables major equipment and technology investments required for our high-quality productions. The deal is part of our growth strategy and improves our competitiveness in Finland and the Nordic countries. Our customers will benefit from more versatile and high-quality services”, said Johanna Koskela, co-founder and CEO of Suora Broadcast.
“M&A transactions are challenging processes and Translink definitely knows how to execute them. Their entrepreneurial mindset perfectly suited our Northern European values. Although the media industry’s due diligence is very complex, at no point did it affect the process. Our company attracted a lot of international interest from all over the world. Translink’s process led to an excellent outcome with Stena, a Swedish family-owned company that understands our business. In co-operation with DMC, we intend to go all the way in conquering the sports broadcasting market in Northern Europe”, commented Juha and Johanna Koskela of Suora Broadcast.
Suora Broadcast is best known especially for its live productions of ice hockey and trotting in Finland. In 2012, the company launched a new remote production model, massively taking the sports TV production forward.
“We are the technology leader in Finland, and I look forward to being able to take our know-how to other Nordic countries as well. Responsibility has been the cornerstone of our operations for a long time, and we have been carbon neutral since 2021. We have plenty to offer to our new colleagues”, Juha Koskela, Suora Broadcast’s co-founder said. “We will continue even more vigorously in our current operational tasks, as our ownership responsibilities lighten”, he added.
Daniel Franck, founder of DMC Production, is pleased with the new co-operation with a responsible pioneering company in the field. “Suora Broadcast is at the forefront of centralised production in Finland, and completely in line with DMC’s philosophy. It is a family-owned company with good values, which provides a stable and long-term platform to continue growing from”, he concluded.
